This weeks activity

It really does feel like Spring is on it’s way, although the weather this week hasn’t agreed!!  However, the children have started to notice that things have started to appear in the ground.  Before half term some of the children planted some bulbs out the front of our preschool.  A week can be a long time in the garden and on our return back this week some of the children took a trip to our outside area to see how our plants had been doing.  This led to a discussion about what happens in Spring time and the changes that occur.  Many children were able to recognise the change in colour to the bulbs and how big they had grown. This was then followed up with how that happens and why it’s important to take care of our plants.  We used the children’s amazing drawing skills to create some pictures to put in the ground to show where things had been planted.  Please take some time to have a look at the changes but also please can we ask you tread carefully as this is something that both the children and the preschool are so excited to see develop over the coming weeks.

Just before the half term, we also planted some broad beans that are still living in our greenhouse at the moment.  Like the bulbs that we have planted, the beans have started to sprout and the children have been looking with interest as to how they have changed since they were first planted.  Once back in the preschool one child even remembered that we had the book ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ which we’ve enjoyed reading over the week.

Our Sparrows this term have started to join the school on a Wednesday evening to partake in their gardening club that Eynsford in bloom  run with the school children.  This will be something that will happen every Wednesday in our extended hours session, and involves the children helping plant, water and weed.  It’s a great opportunity for our Sparrows to be involved with something that the school have arranged.
