Dear Parents and Carers

This week our children enjoyed a lovely walk around our village and local shops. The children were very excited to explore their community and notice the things around them. Here are some of the wonderful learning experiences they had along the way:

What We Saw

Houses, gardens, and trees showing the colours of the season.

Local shops, including the estate agency, Raffety’s, Olivia’s and the Butchers, and the people who work there. Including one of the children’s Grandad

Everyday signs such as street names, shop signs, and bus stops.

What We Learned

Understanding the world: The children learned about the different roles people play in our community and how shops help us.

Language development: They enjoyed learning new words like Eynsford, gate, and sign.

Maths: We practised counting house numbers, spotted shapes on road signs, and compared big and small buildings.

Safety skills: The children learned how to walk safely together, hold hands, and look out for traffic. Singing our road safety song as we cross the road.

Extending Our Learning

Back at Preschool, the children used the blocks to build what they saw drew pictures and talked about their favourite parts of the walk. Some children role-played being shopkeepers and customers, building on their real-life experiences.

It was a wonderful trip that sparked so many questions and conversations. We are proud of how curious, observant, and sensible the children were.
