This week’s activities

Noticing similarities and differences

Some of the children were talking about who was the tallest and who had the longest hair. This led to a discussion about differences and similarities, initially in appearance. For example, eye and hair colour. Their seemed to be particular interest around who had the longest hair. The talk then turned to feelings and whether they felt happy or sad. To help them represent how they were feeling, they used the chalks in the large tough tray to draw their own faces and how they felt at that time. One child commented that they felt ‘shy today’. They also learnt that chalk can be rubbed out so we can start over again.

PE in the primary school hall

We are lucky to be able to have the use of the school hall, twice per week. We often say things to children expecting them to know what we mean. If you say let’s go to PE to small children, and they have never heard it before, they really have no idea what you are talking about. The teacher explained in simple terms that PE means Physical Education. Again, what does this phrase mean. She went on to explain that physical is when we use our bodies and move them in a range of ways and education is when we are learning and being taught new things. To explain what PE involves, she talked about using our big muscles and bones in our legs and arms (in fact all of our bodies) to move in a range of ways. This includes getting out of breath and feeling our heart beating faster. She talked about how physical exercise is really important for our health and wellbeing and how we should be doing lots of it everyday.

As always, there are photos available on our website, www.anthonyroperpreschool.co.uk, and our Facebook page, of some of the activities the children have taken part in this week.
