This week’s activities

Yoga/gymnastics

We have been carrying out yoga moves for quite some time now; generally at the start of the day. Some of the children have been exploring the yoga moves in Wren Room, where there is a bit more space and a quiet area. Yoga is a good way to calm down and explore what your body can do in a controlled way. The yoga moves we do are simple and easily achieved. Moving on from yoga, some of the children started to talk about ‘gymnastics’. They used a ‘crash mat’ to allow them to explore some different movements, including rolly-polly. The teachers were on hand to make sure that they did it in a safe way, whilst learning how to move their bodies in new ways. There are some photos of them taking part in yoga and gymnastics on our website and Facebook page.

Thank you card

We are fortuante to have received a donation from the Eynsford Fireworks event held on the 5th November. To show our gratitude, the children have made a ‘thank you’ card. The card represents the children’s interpretation of fireworks, using paint and splatter techniques that they have previously used, building on from what they already know but on a smaller scale. Making the card led to discussion around what saying ‘thank you’ means. This is quite a hard concept, especially when the children can’t see something tangible in front of them. However, we will re-visit this concept once we have received the donation and will discuss what we bought with the money. Talking about the value and cost of things, where they come from, how they are manufactured, the energy that goes into making them, the packaging they come in, all link in to our Education for Sustainable Development Award too.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.
