This week’s activities

Physical development

The weather has been quite a challenge this week for access to the outside. We have been out as much as possible, but even the best waterproofs and wellies cannot keep everyone safe and dry when the rain and wind are torrential. To ensure that the children are still getting their large physical play everyday, we have been using inside spaces in a range of ways. These have included a pop-up tunnel and wooden block balancing beam – to encourage a range of movement along the floor; good for core development and balance. These are essential for children’s physical development. Core strength is needed to be able to sit-up and concentrate as they move through their educational journey and balance is a vital physical development that will be beneficial throughout their lives and into old age.

They have also carefully listened to the ‘Sticky Fingers’ CD. This features a range of fun songs, each with a different range of movements. This encourages good listening skills, alongside following instructions, moving in a range of ways and using their whole bodies, but most importantly, is great fun!

Finally, they went on a ‘Bear Hunt’ re-enacting the ever-popular story. Moving through the howling wind, dodging the tree roots, squelching through the mud, etc. Not only great for physical development but lovely for literacy skills as they learn the repeated refrains.

Sensory room

As you know, we are not currently using Wren Room for everyday activities. However, we are using it for small group work and, as of today, we have created a ‘sensory room’. This allows the children to experience a range of sensory resources that stimulate or calm. It is especially beneficial for children with special needs and we hope the children will get lots of fun and stimulation from being in there in a small group.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.
