With the stark news that the world is facing devastating climate change and the loss of a million species of animals and insects, it is more important than ever that we support the next generation of children to understand the impacts that our habits are having and how we can do our small bit to change them.

At the Pre-School, we continue with our endeavours to teach the children to be aware of not only their own family and immediate community, but the wider world.  For some time, we have been helping the children to recycle their waste. We separate out plastics, silver foil, paper and fruit and vegetable waste into different bins. The children are able to look for the marks on the back of packaging and distinguish between what they can and cannot recycle.  We talk to them about why this is important and how we can reduce our waste.  We compost the fruit and vegetable waste and we will use this on our allotment garden when it is ready.  We grow some of our own food, with the support of our lovely mum, Amy.

In September we will be embarking on a Sustainable Development Award which will further enhance the children’s and their families’ involvement in encouraging the children to consider their world when making choices.
