The first few weeks of the autumn term have flown by, with lots of new children (many as young as two) joining the setting and making that big step away from home.  Our lovely team of Early Years Educators have worked extremely hard with patience and kindness to support these children and settle them into the routines of the Pre-school.  We also work closely with our parents/carers at what can be a difficult time for them.

The Pre-school’s approach to the care and education of the children is moving towards ‘in the moment planning’.  This system ensures that the child is always at the centre.  We know that each child is unique, with their own individual needs and interests.  We therefore ensure that our environment is stimulating and exciting, whilst ensuring that we follow the child’s lead when planning activities.  These happen ‘in the moment’.  It is amazing what can follow from a ‘spark’.  For example, a child had built a structure with the wooden blocks.  The adult took interest in his structure, used skillful language to encourage the child to think beyond this structure, which led to looking at a photo book of different types of structures together.  The child spotted houses from different cultures and asked where they were.  This led to the adult explaining where they were from and that they could find the countries on a globe.  This then led to looking at the difference between land and sea and the animals that live there.  The child demonstrated many skills and deep level thinking.  Once his curiosity had been satisfied, again with support from the adult, he was able to return the blocks to the shelves ready for the next child.
