This week’s activity

Den building

The teacher asked the children if they would like to build a den. They thought about what they could use outside to make a den. They chose milk crates, pegs and masking tape. First of all they stacked the crates on top of each other. This made the shape of the den. To make a roof and walls, they used materials to drape over the crates. Once they had their den, the teacher asked what they might need to make it a home. They decided they needed some cooking utensils, so they collected some pots and pans, some camping chairs and a small light. To make their “dinner”, they collected leaves and put them in the pan to cook on the camping stove. This led to discussion around different homes and how some people don’t have a home of their own with walls, windows and doors but live in makeshift shelters in all weathers, including the cold wind and rain that we have been experiencing recently.

We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and New Year with your families. See you in January!
