Autumn leaves

With the changing of the seasons the children’s environment is also changing. We help the children understand the changes that happen in the natural world and how this reflects how time moves forward but how there are cycles to our natural world such as seasons. The change in the trees is an obvious one to use as many of the leaves turn from the green of the summer to the yellows, oranges, reds and browns of the autumn. They then fall to the floor and the trees begin to change shape as the branches become more obvious once they are bare. Today some of the children went on a leaf collecting walk to the woodland area at the top of the School. They explored the woods, noticing different trees and the different leaves that each type of tree has. There were also some conkers, pinecones and ‘helicopters’ to collect. Once they had explored the woods and collected their treasure, they returned to the Pre-school where they made leaf rubbings and leaf printing, noticing the different images that were created by the different leaves.
