Car counting

We took a small group of children up to the gates to count how many cars we could spot in 4 different colours. Those colours were red, black, green and blue. We took a tally chart with us and the children took it in turns to make a mark under the right colour. We talked about the most popular and least popular colour. The children also noticed that there were lots of grey and white cars which led to discussions about what cars they have at home – what colour car they have, how big their car is and how many cars they have. They also noticed that some of the cars either went very slow or very fast which led to a discussion about road safety and how we must take care when near roads and crossing them. Our older children had a great understanding of their road safety.
