This week’s activity

Music Sessions

The children have been working on some key skills, turn taking, listening and matching sounds. These skills are really important to have as they will all be early parts of becoming school ready. The activity was of course adapted to let everyone have a challenge suitable to their level of understanding and development, this also encouraged the children to work together to help their peers discover what instrument they could hear. Debbie began demonstrating the sounds showing the children the instruments and they were then hidden behind a board. The children then took it in turns to listen to the sound and match it to one of the instruments in front of them. They all cheered each other on when we got it right! This then sparked lots of interest in our next music sessions, looking at the different sounds musical instruments make. We found that by using them in different ways this produced different noises and volumes e.g tapping the drum slowly created a quiet sound that was ‘calm’ and banging it faster and harder made a really loud sound that was ‘so crazy’!’ As well as all this we finished off making rhythms to our favourite songs…..Old Macdonald seeming to be the most popular.
