Walking to the War Memorial

As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, the children were going to go on a walk to the War Memorial to lay their poppies. Due to the very heavy rain on Friday, this didn’t happen until Monday of this week. The children respectfully laid their poppies, looking at the wreaths that had been laid by the various societies and individuals at the memorial. They then continued their walk to St Martin’s Church, where they noticed the silhouettes of the soldiers and the crotched poppies that have been put up in the churchyard. Planting pumpkin seeds

Previously, the children had explored all of the things they could do with a pumpkin; one of which was plant some of the seeds in compost in plant pots. On their return to Pre-school this week, we were delighted to see that the pumpkins had started to sprout. The children discussed how this might have happened and what the seeds had needed to make them grow. They used a reference book to study the stages of growth and drew their own pictures of how they think the pumpkins will look when they have grown. The children will continue to nurture the pumpkin plants over the coming months, transferring them to our allotment garden, hoping that we will have our very own pumpkins come next autumn.
