This week’s activities
Alongside all of the usual activities the children get involved with, such as building, painting, drawing, running, climbing, exploring, experimenting, socialising, water play, role play – I could go on, this week the children have been learning some simple yoga exercises. They began with a breathing exercise:
Balloon breath – balloon breath helps improve focus and promote clarity.
Following on from the breathing exercise, they progressed to:
Easy pose – easy pose strengthens the back and spine while also encouraging good posture. The benefits of this pose are calming, restoring, strengthening and stretching.
Star pose – star pose (or five-pointed star) seems simple enough, but holding the pose correctly for any length of time is actually quite challenging. The children were encouraged to engage all the muscles of their bodies to maintain the pose.
Happy baby pose – happy baby pose stretches and opens the hips, hamstrings, glutes, and groin while also soothing the lower back.
Airplane pose – airplane pose helps improve balance and co-ordination, while stretching the hamstrings, back and arms.
Half-moon pose – half-moon pose is perfect for developing balance.
They finished off the session by returning to balloon breath to calm down and re-focus.
Thank you.
