Strawberry plants and Fathers’ Day shopping

We are continuing to have the support of the lovely volunteers from Eynsford in Bloom. They have kindly donated some strawberry plants. The children have re-potted these plants into bigger pots (also kindly donated) and they have been watering them and making sure that they are in pristine condition ready to be sold at our Fathers’ Day Shop before Fathers’ Day on Sunday 18th June.

You may have also noticed that we have rather a large strawberry patch. We have been collected the strawberries each morning and the children have been enjoying them at snack time. Yummy!

The children get such a lot from nurturing plants. They have to be patient and they have to think about what they need. These concepts do not come naturally to very young children and gardening is a great way of exploring these early empathetic ideas.

The children will also be learning simple economics, as they bring in their pennies to buy the strawberry plants for their daddies (or the special people in their lives) at our shop. All monies raised from the sale are used to enhance the activities that the children then participate in. This demonstrates the interconnectedness of the community and the part that the children and the Pre-school play in it.
